It’s time to get your wizard on. One of the most anticipated movies of recent years has finally been released, and it’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The movie is based off the book by J.K Rowling, which was written for charity in 2001 to benefit Comic Relief, a UK-based charity he organization that combats poverty within the United Kingdom. The new film begins in 1926 as Newt Scamander arrives in New York City with a suitcase full of magical weirdos just trying to get along with muggles (non-magical people). Newt is a single man and his briefcase contains various magical creatures that he has collected on his adventures around the world. At the opening of the film (which was filmed all around NYC), we also meet Jacob Kowalski (played by Dan Fogler), who was hired to market and capture New York’s pigeons. Yes, real birds were used for this movie. The movie revolves around Newt Scamander who gets involved in many events throughout New York City including trying to find information on how to control and contain magical creatures, as well as chasing down a number of missing beasts after one of them escapes from his suitcase and causes mayhem in Central Park. This movie has a rating of PG-13 for some thematic elements and suggestive material. For the rating, it’s not too serious, but still gives us a dose of magic. The movie is directed by David Yates who helmed the last 4 Harry Potter films as well as the first two Fantastic Beasts movies. The principal cast includes Eddie Redmayne who plays Newt Scamander, Katherine Waterston who plays Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, Dan Fogler who plays Jacob Kowalski, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone, Samantha Morton as Mary Lou Barebone and Colin Farrell as Percival Graves. In addition, Jude Law plays a small role as a convicted dark wizard named Credence Barebone’s adoptive father. This film is being marketed heavily due to its ties to the Harry Potter universe, and with there being a new installment in the "Fantastic Beasts" universe every few years, it’s only a matter of time before an adaptation of this book is made into a film. The story has been released in book stores around the world since 2001 with "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" being released later that year. J.K. Rowling has also announced that the book will be made into a play in London’s West End with an official release of 2017, while fans were further introduced to more details on Newt Scamander’s life with the release of the screenplay for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" by J.K. Rowling, which was released in October 2016 under the name "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay". The film is based off of a book of more than 300 pages that’s jam-packed with creatures, spells and more information on what it would be like if there were actually magical creatures walking around our streets today. 8eeb4e9f32 45
